I am Juben Basumatary, an XR Design
Student studying at the Indian Institute
of Technology, Jodhpur.

I was born in Assam and studied Diploma in Animation and Multimedia Technology at the Central Institute of Technology, Kokrajhar. I further pursued Bachelor of Design in Multimedia Communication and Design at the same institute. With expertise in 3D modeling, texturing, CG lighting, and rendering, I specialize in creating immersive and visually striking designs. Currently, I am pursuing Master of Design in XR Design at the School of Design, Indian Institute of Technology.

I believe that the success of a project is based on good collaboration and being kind.

XR Design Intern
Summer Internship (7 Weeks: June 5, 2024 – July 24, 2024)

During my internship at Godrej & Boyce Mfg. Co. Ltd., I worked as an XR Designer in the Innovation Digital Department.
We were a team of two XR designers and together we worked on a total of eight projects. Our work involved both solo
and collaborative efforts: each of us handled two individual projects while collaborating on four group projects.
Throughout the internship, we extensively utilized XR technologies, including Augmented Reality (AR),
Mixed Reality (MR) and Virtual Reality (VR), to design and develop innovative solutions.


IFFCO Kisan Sachan Ltd.
Video Editor and Graphic Design Intern
Summer Internship (1 month: 21 July 2021 – August 21, 2021 )

During my internship at IFFCO Kisan Sanchar Ltd.,
I was responsible for video editing and poster creation.
Enhancing the company’s agricultural advisory services and educational materials.

Abstract:
Virtual Reality (VR) technology has emerged as a transformative medium for immersive experiences, particularly within the entertainment sector. However, chal lenges persist in terms of accessibility and user interaction, hindering widespread adop tion. This paper addresses these challenges by exploring and developing natural, intui tive, and culturally relevant hand gestures tailored for VR video streaming applications, focusing on YouTube VR. Drawing upon existing literature and user feedback, we iden tified the need for more intuitive interaction methods, particularly for volume control and pause-play functions. Through our user study, we proposed 9 unique hand gestures. Re sults from user studies indicate that these gestures have cultural relevance, with partici pants finding them easy to use and accessible, even for users with hand-shivering health issues. This research contributes to enhancing the user experience in YouTube VR and informs the development of more intuitive interaction methods for VR applications, ulti mately fostering broader acceptance and engagement in the VR space.
